MAJOR ACITIVITES OF NRNA DURING THE ICC TERM 2009-11

 

  1. Under the leadership of NRNA VP Jiba Lamichhane, NRNs participated in a rally in Copenhagen to sensitize climate change issues on December 11, 2009.

 

  1. Formation of various Task force on December 13, 2009 :

  • Task Force on Promotion of NRNs in International Organizations,

  1. On 11 February 2010, NRNA handed over 316 airport trolley to TIA.

 

  1. On February 19, 2010 NRNA and FNCCI signed an agreement to assist the Trade Schools. NRNA has provided 25 Lakhs already.

 

  1. On February 26, 2010, the NRNA team led by NRNA Chief Patron Dr. Upendra Mahato participated in the rally launching of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.

 

  1. On March 3, 2010, the Government of Nepal began issuing Non-Resident Nepali Card to NRNs.

 

  1. NRNA European Regional Women Conference in Belgium on March 6, 2010.

 

  1. On 8 April 2010, NRNA Chief Patron Dr. Upendra Mahato handed Nepali flag to world Cyclist Pushkar Shah.

 

  1. NRN of USA Mr. A C Sherpa conquered the world’s tallest peak Mt Everest with the NRNA Flag on May 23 , 2010

 

  1. In coordination of the General Secretary of NRNA International Coordination Council, Ratan Jha, the Fourth Regional NRN Conference was successfully  held in, Houston, Texas on May 28-31, 2010.

 

  1. On May 29, 2010, NRNs participated in International Sagarmatha Day Rally in Kathmandu.

 

 

  1. NRNA European Committee’s Fourth Meeting was held on July 31, 2010 in Paris, France.

 

  1. Re-Appilcation for the registration of NRNA filed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 17, 2010

 

  1. On October 5, 2010, an MoU was signed between NRNA and NAST for the development of Science and Technology in Nepal

 

  1. An agreement was signed between SKI and National Press Institute on October 6, 2010

 

  1. On October 7, 2010 a resolution was signed between the NRNA and Nepal’s Ministry of Education to operate an Open University in Nepal.

 

  1. On October 8, 2010, NRNA organized a luncheon with the diplomatic community in Kathmandu, where Ambassadors and representatives of different embassies participated: Ambassadors from Japan, Egypt, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and representatives from USA, Canada, and Germany participated.

 

  1. With an objective to promote Nepal Tourism Year 2011, NRN Trek was organized on October 9, 2010 from Dhulikhel to Namobudhha.  More than 200 NRNs participate in the trek.

 

  1. On October 10, 2010, NRNA President Dev Man Hirachan inaugurated a trade school in Gorkha.

 

  1. On October 11, 2010, NRN Day was celebrated in Pokhara. Program was inaugurated by Rt. Hon. Subash Chandra Nembang. The program was attended by more than 400 participants.

 

  1.  On October 12, 20110, Sarangkot Beautification project was inaugurated. The total cost of the project will be more than 8 lakhs.

 

  1. On 28 October 2010, NRNA organized a discussion program on dual citizenship where members of the constituent assembly and representatives of political parties participated.

 

  1. On 1 & 2 November, 2010, NRNA engaged in intense lobbying effort to push for the dual citizenship provision in the new constitution.

 

  1. On November 4, 2010 Nepal Government’s High Level Commission decided to provide NRN Citizenship to NRNs.

 

  1. On November 26, 2010 Dual Citizenship position paper was distributed to 599 members of the constituent assembly.

 

 

 

  1. On January 6, 2011, NRNA organized a program with Nepal’s spiritual leaders and top leaders of political parties where a two point commitment letter was signed to end the political deadlock at the soonest possible time and to promulgate the constitution on Jest 14, 2068.  

 

  1. The 5th NRN Regional Conference was organized on January 13- 16, 2011 in the city of Dubai, UAE.  The prime focus of the conference was on Collective Investment and safe migration.  The conference was addressed by the Hon. DPM and Minister for Foreign Affair, Sujata Koirala and had participation of Hon. Sheikh Aftab Alam, Minister for Labour, NRNA President Mr. Dev Man Hirachan, NRNA Chief Patron Dr. Upendra Mahato and dignitaries from Nepal and UAE.  Around 380 participants from 22 Countries took part in the conference.  The conference was concluded with the issuance of Dubai Declaration comprising of 12 major points. The conference was successfully managed by Mr. Rameshwar Shah, NRNA Treasurer and Conference Coordinator.

 

  1. The delegation led by NRNA Parton Mr. Ram Pratap Thapa met Rt. Hon. Mr. Subash Chandra Nembang, President – Constituent Assembly on January 23, 2011.  The delegation discussed on the citizenship provision to be included in the new constitution.

 

On the same day, the delegation led by Mr. Ratan Kumar Jha, NRNA General Secretary also met with Hon. Nilamber Acharya, Chairman – constitutional Committee. The delegation requested Hon. Chairman to ensure the inclusion of the NRNA’s slogan – Once Nepali, Always Nepali in the new constitution.

 

  1. Formation of NRNA Disciplinary Committee headed by NRNA Parton Mr. Ram Pratap Thapa on January 31, 2011. The committee comprised of 3 members including NRNA Advisor Ms. Indra Ban and ICC Member Mr. Hem Raj Sharma from UK.

 

  1. Meeting with National Planning commission to discuss on elibrary project. The meeting chaired by VP of NPC and was attended by representatives from PM’s office, Ministry of Education and other government offices and INGOs.  The E library Organizing Committee in the chairmanship of NPC was also formed during the meeting.

 

  1. Task force on Collective Investment formed by Nepal Government – Nepal Rastra Bank involving NRNA. The first meeting was held on 16-17 February 2011, at the premises of NRB, Kathmandu. Mr. Rameshwar Shah Treasurer NRNA and Bhim Udas Patron NRNA are the member of the Taskforce.

 

  1. MOU between NRNA and Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal was signed on February 15, 2011.  The main objective is to promote nepali handicrafts and products abroad with the help of NRN Networks.

 

  1. International Women’s Day was celebrated by NRNA ICC  on March 12, 2011  in Belgium

 

  1. Special Peace Prayer Program was organized on March 28, 2011 at  Boudha Stupa Kathmandu to commemorate the monumental loss suffered by japan and Japanese people during the disastrous earthquake of March 11, 2011 and pray for fast recovery of the Japan and the  people of Japan. The program was graced by Rt. Hon. President of Nepal, Rt. Hon Subash Chandra Nembang, H.E. Ambassador of Japanese Embassy and Executives of other different organizations.

 

 

  1. Four membered committee for mobilizing Collective Investment Taskforce was formed by NRB involving NRNs on 24 June 2011. Mr. Bhim Udas NRNA Patron is one of the member of the Committee.

 

  1. Launch of Open University Office at the premises of the Ministry of Education Nepal on February 13, 2011.  Joint Secretary of MoE officially handed over the keys of the office to the NRNA President.

 

  1. Interaction on Open University was organized on April 4, 2011 at the premises of MoE Nepal. The program was chaired by the Hon Minister for Education Ministry

 

  1. NRNA Japan and other NCCs financially contributed and supported the victims of the disastrous earthquake of March 11, 2011 in Japan.

 

  1. NRNA Delegation led by NRNA President to Hon. DPM and Foreign Minister Mr. Upendra Yadav to brief him about the upcoming 5th NRN Global Conf. on June 9, 2011

 

  1. Approval of Open University by Cabinet of Nepal on June 22, 2011

 

  1. On July 5, 2011 NRNA participated in the high level committee on economic diplomacy under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Ministry and Foreign Minister and secretaries of different ministries as its members, NRNA Patron Bhim Udas, NRNA Secretary Tenzi Sherpa NRNA ED Rajesh S Rana participated.

 

  1. July 12 2011 a high level committee meeting on collective investment under the chairmanship of deputy governor of NRB was held. NRNA Patron Bhim Udas and NRNA Treasurer attended.

 

  1. The 6th Non Resident Nepali Regional Conference was held from 23rd to 24th July in Moscow, Russia. The conference was graced by the chief Guest Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Upendra Yadav and the special guest Moscow State Duma Mr Platonov V.M. The conference was successfully organized under the leadership of NRNA VP Jiba Nath Lamichhane. Altogether, there were 417 participants from 25 countries. Nepal House was also inaugurated on 24th July, 2011 in Russia.

 

  1. A delegation led by NRNA President met  President of Nepal, Dignitaries of Government of Nepal, Top Political leaders and CA Members to lobby and remind the Gvt official regarding the dual citizenship issue and assure the DC provision in the upcoming constitution  and raise the labor issues related to Middle Eastern NRNs, from 7 -9 August 2011. On same day, a press meet was also organized to announce and update on the 5th NRN Global Conference to be organized in Kathmandu in October 12-14, 2011.

 

  1. OUN Planning Workshop was held in Ottawa, Canada on 1st August, 2011 where the Welcome address was delivered by Dr. Ambika Adhikari. Dr. Drona Rasali, Dr. Pramod Dhakal and Dr. Mahabir Pun highlighted on the Introduction to Workshop Format, OUN Initiative Updates and IT Infrastructure Development Planning respectively

 

  1.  On 26 August 2011 Athabasca University donated twenty (20) laptop computers to NRN-Canada in support of the Initiative for Open University of Nepal (OUN) in Edmonton. The OUN Initiative is a joint effort between NRNA, NRN-Canada, Canada Foundation For Nepal (CFFN), Government of Nepal and Athabasca University to establish an Open University in Nepal.

 

  1. On 15 September 2011 NRNA President met Hon. DPM and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Narayan Kaji Shrestha to brief the updates on the preparation of 5th NRN global Conference and also to request Govt. to allocate some funds for conference and form the High Level Organizing Committee.

 

  1. NRN Officer Bearers met with top leaders of political parties from time to time.

 

  1. Regular meetings of the ICC concluded (including cyber meetings).
