It is my great honor and privilege to address the global Nepali community as the President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA). Since its establishment in 2003, NRNA has been guided by a noble vision to unite Nepalis living across the world and to channel their knowledge, skills, technology, and capital towards the social and economic development of our motherland, Nepal. Guided by the motto “Nepali for Nepali,” the Association has, over the past two decades, expanded its presence to more than 90 countries, successfully bringing together a diverse and vibrant diaspora under a shared identity and common purpose.

Through continuous advocacy and collective effort, significant progress has been achieved in strengthening the relationship between Nepal and its global diaspora. The Government of Nepal has introduced important policies and legal provisions related to Non-Resident Nepalis, including citizenship, investment facilitation, residency provisions, and social security. These milestones have further reinforced the sense of belonging, responsibility, and connection among Nepalis living abroad. However, as we move forward, we must also acknowledge the evolving challenges before us. Rapid global changes, advancements in technology, shifting migration patterns, and the growing presence of second-generation Nepali who may feel increasingly distant from their roots—demand a renewed vision and approach. At the same time, organizational complexities and past divisions have, at times, limited our collective potential and slowed progress on critical issues.

In this context, unity, reform, and transformation are not just necessary they are imperative. The recent consensus and renewed spirit of collaboration within the Association mark the beginning of a new and promising chapter. We are committed to building an institution that is inclusive, transparent, accountable, and capable of addressing the aspirations of all Non-Resident Nepalis.

With this vision, I present our key strategic priorities:

Key Strategic Priorities

Institutional Restructuring and Rebranding:  We will undertake comprehensive structural reforms to ensure long-term sustainability and credibility. A modern and strong institutional identity will be established, with transparent and inclusive leadership selection through an Electoral College system.

Effective Organizational Structure and Leadership: Core sectors such as Youth, Women, Foreign Employment, Investment, Human Welfare, NRN Rights and Interests, and Nepal Promotion will be systematically strengthened under the leadership of Vice Presidents, with clear roles and accountability.

Professional and Academic Engagement : An autonomous Professional and Academic Council comprising experts such as doctors, engineers, scientists, and scholars will be established to facilitate effective knowledge, skill, and technology transfer to Nepal.

Membership Verification and Electoral Reform: We will ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral system through robust membership verification supported by modern technologies such as AI and Management Information Systems (MIS). All key committees will be made fully independent and credible.

Protection of Rights and Interests : We will continue strong advocacy for citizenship rights, voting rights, the rights of Gurkha veterans, and other key entitlements, including the provision for voting from abroad.

Safe, Dignified, and Skill-Based Foreign Employment : Priority will be given to the welfare of migrant workers through programs on social security, pre-departure orientation, skill development, and reintegration. The Foreign Employment Welfare Fund will be further strengthened.

Promotion of Investment in Nepal : We will actively pursue policy reforms to attract diaspora investment, including addressing double taxation and promoting investment opportunities through dedicated funds and capital market instruments.

Women’s Empowerment and Inclusion : At least 33 percent representation of women will be ensured across all levels, along with strong mechanisms for support, protection, and empowerment.

Youth and Second-Generation Engagement : Dedicated platforms will be created to engage youth and second-generation Nepalis through internships, educational visits, innovation programs, and initiatives such as Youth Volunteer for Nepal (YV4N).

Knowledge, Skills, and Technology Transfer : Through initiatives such as the NRNA Academy, Science Foundation, and Knowledge Conventions, we will build systems to utilize global Nepali expertise for national development.

Technology-Driven NRNA : NRNA will be transformed into a fully digital and technology-driven organization through smart applications, blockchain systems, secure verification mechanisms, and a comprehensive digital archive.

Economic Sustainability : To ensure financial independence, we will diversify revenue sources through CSR partnerships, crowdfunding, and membership benefit schemes, reducing reliance on traditional membership fees.

Philanthropy, Culture, and Global Cooperation : We will strengthen humanitarian initiatives, disaster management systems, and promote Nepali art, culture, and tourism globally. Collaboration with international organizations such as the UN, ILO, and IOM will be further enhanced, alongside strong coordination with the Government of Nepal.

After many years, the Association has achieved a historic milestone by electing its leadership unanimously, reflecting a renewed commitment to unity and collective progress. This moment represents not just continuity, but transformation—a shift towards a more cohesive, forward-looking, and result-oriented organization. Today, we stand at the threshold of a new era. With a clear vision and a strong foundation, we are embarking on a journey to rebrand and revitalize NRNA as a trusted, dynamic, and future-ready institution that truly represents the voice and aspirations of the global Nepali community.

I firmly believe that with your continued support, cooperation, and trust, we can achieve this vision together. Let us unite with renewed energy and shared purpose to contribute meaningfully to the prosperity of Nepal and to strengthen the bond between our homeland and its global citizens.

Thank you.
